The challenge was as follows: Build a serious steel bike and give it only the attributes that matter most. Fast and comfortable on tarmac, as well as safe and comfortable on degraded surfaces. What the engineers have created is the Surly Preamble, a gravel and tarmac bike that proves you don't need to cut corners to make a more affordable steel bike. Just simplify things.
Preamble can carry a rack, mudguards and a couple of water bottles. Smooth and efficient on the tarmac, the Preamble's double butted main triangle provides a slick ride feel and withstands the abuse of life's inevitable bumps.
